  • My immediate reaction to the Oscar Nominations

    (The nominations)

Jonah Hill is now an Oscar Nominated actor.

Gary Oldman is now an Oscar Nominated actor.  FINALLY.  Like I tweeted my friend JodiTinker Tailor is a tough sit-through, but I’m still stoked that Gary Oldman finally has a nomination.

Melissa McCarthy is now an Oscar Nominated actress!

Jim Rash, the kooky dean from Community, is now an Oscar Nominated screenwriter (The Descendants). So, for that matter, is Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids).

Best Actress is a pleasingly competitive category this year, with Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Viola Davis (The Help), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn), and Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo).

Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close nominated for Best Picture and Best Supporting Actor?!  I guess I should see that one after all.

No nominations for lust objects Ryan Gosling & Michael Fassbender.  Fine with me, though I haven’t seen Shame or The Ides Of March.

Under new voting rules, there could have been anywhere from five to ten best picture nominees, depending upon how many first-place votes the movies got on the nomination ballots.  There ended up being nine nominees.  I think that’s fun; they’ll be keeping that rule around, I think.

Bret McKenzie from Flight Of The Conchords is now an Oscar Nominated songwriter, and there are only two nominations in that category!
