Zawmer facts!
Hi. I’ve been away from Tumblr for a few days. Here are some things that are relevant to people who are deeply, deeply interested in the life of the person who maintains this blog, and who is currently typing this sentence:
- I work every day, but I just got done with a stretch of 12 days where I had to work long hours at my main job with one day off in the middle. (Of course, I still had to work my other job on that day.) It exhausted the bejeezus out of me.
- Those 12 days climaxed with some bad news at work; several jobs were eliminated from my company and there were unpleasant layoffs and demotions. Nothing seems to be changing with my job; my department didn’t even lose any positions. But I still don’t feel that safe.
- Once I had a free evening, I went to see Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol at the huge IMAX auditorium at the Minnesota Zoo. I chose that location because I knew they would have the special preview of the new Batman movie at the beginning. Maybe this has a little to do with how relieved I was to be done with all that work, but that whole movie experience was excellent. I’ve never felt so much like I got my money’s worth for an IMAX ticket. Mission: Impossible looks outstanding in IMAX, and it’s hard to believe that anyone would see that six-minute Dark Knight Rises intro and not be completely sold on going to see that movie in IMAX when it comes out.
- I would go so far as to say that I think the best movie I’ve seen this year is Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol. It is really thrilling and fun! My least favorite thing about it is the stupid punctuation in the title. I mean seriously, a colon in between “Mission” and “Impossible”, then a dash in between “Impossible” and “Ghost”? I say fuck that shit! They should just get rid of that colon, and instead put a colon before “Ghost Protocol”. If we can “trip the light fantastic” and “sing the body electric”, then we can call something a “mission impossible”. End of language-geek rant.
- I’ll be away from Tumblr again for a few days starting tomorrow! My family is renting a cabin in Lutsen, up on the North Shore, for Christmas weekend. Skiing in the Midwest leaves a lot to be desired, especially for someone who learned to ski in the Swiss Alps. But the ski area at Lutsen is by far the best we have in Minnesota, and the view overlooking Lake Superior, beautiful and vast, holds up among the most fetching environments I’ve ever had the luxury of gliding through on skis.
- That comment about “especially for someone who learned to ski in the Swiss Alps” sounded really snobby. To counteract that, here is an embarrassing fact about me: a girl I liked once told a friend of mine that she thought kissing me would be like kissing “boiled meat”.
