Stephen King
I just finished my 30th Stephen King book.
Stephen King deserves plenty of credit for getting me interested in reading when I was a teenager. A lot of those early King books don’t seem too interesting to me any more, but I’ve really loved a lot of them.
And yet this latest, his newest one, has suddenly become my favorite. As much as I loved The Stand and Misery and The Long Walk and The Green Mile, I have to put 11/22/63 ahead of all of them. Bear in mind, I am a sucker for time-travel plots. But also bear in mind that this book has a ton of historical perspective going for it, and gobs and gobs of really effective sentimentality.
It’s about (basic plot points spoiled ahead) a guy that travels back in time to prevent the assassination of President Kennedy, and you can actually read a short excerpt here. It’s from very early in the book, and it’s a really long book.
As it was getting toward the end, I found myself hesitating to keep reading because I didn’t want it to be over.
